Bend Oregon Weather

Bend is a city located in Deschutes County, Oregon. This city is known for its unpredictable weather. Interestingly, the area is nestled between the Cascade Mountain Range and the Central Oregon high desert. This unusual setting provides a broad range of weather patterns that can greatly vary from hour to hour, and day by day. As the infamous quote states, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes; it will change.”  In general, however, given that Bend is located in close proximity to the high desert plateau as well as mountain peaks, the area offers cool nights and sunny days.

Bend, Oregon hosts all four seasons, thereby affording both residents and visitors a wide range of outdoor activities. Depending on the weather, interested persons may participate in camping, fishing, hiking, skiing, or biking adventures, among other things.  Most of the time, the climate is quite mild and annual precipitation will average approximately 10-13 inches.

Low humidity and an abundance of warm days punctuate the summer months.  Daily temperatures may reach 80 – 90 degrees Fahrenheit.  However, nights are cool and may reach the mid 40s and 50s.  Early and late Summer evenings may occasionally also bring the unexpected cooler frosty temperatures that make this high desert region such and exciting place for the weather enthusiast.

Autumn also brings cool nights. However, in the fall, area guests will also experience warm, dry days. Some people refer to this weather as an “Indian summer,” being that the weather is quite mild, even in late autumn months.

In the winter season, the peaks of the Cascade Mountains are covered with glistening white snow. In general, the average snowfall of the area will reach approximately 34 inches. Although sports aficionados are usually able to take advantage of skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports, the winter months are usually mild.    Overall, the winter season offers outdoor adventurers daytime temperatures in the range of 40 – 50 degrees Fahrenheit.  At night, the thermometer will record temperatures ranging from as low as 22 degrees to as high as the low 50s.

Clearly, Bend, Oregon offers great diversity in its seasonal weather patterns. This weather is enjoyable, and affords area guests the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of outdoor adventures. This has contributed to Bend’s reputation as a “recreational capital.”
