Bend is a city located in Deschutes
County, Oregon. This city is known for its unpredictable weather.
Interestingly, the area is nestled between the Cascade Mountain
Range and the Central Oregon high desert. This unusual setting
provides a broad range of weather patterns that can greatly vary
from hour to hour, and day by day. As the infamous quote states,
“If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes; it will
change.” In general, however, given that Bend is located in close
proximity to the high desert plateau as well as mountain peaks,
the area offers cool nights and sunny days.
Bend, Oregon hosts all four seasons,
thereby affording both residents and visitors a wide range of
outdoor activities. Depending on the weather, interested persons
may participate in camping, fishing, hiking, skiing, or biking
adventures, among other things. Most of the time, the climate is
quite mild and annual precipitation will average approximately
10-13 inches.
Low humidity and an abundance of warm
days punctuate the summer months. Daily temperatures may reach 80
– 90 degrees Fahrenheit. However, nights are cool and may reach
the mid 40s and 50s. Early and late Summer evenings may
occasionally also bring the unexpected cooler frosty temperatures
that make this high desert region such and exciting place for the
weather enthusiast.
Autumn also brings cool nights.
However, in the fall, area guests will also experience warm, dry
days. Some people refer to this weather as an “Indian summer,”
being that the weather is quite mild, even in late autumn months.
In the winter season, the peaks of the
Cascade Mountains are covered with glistening white snow. In
general, the average snowfall of the area will reach approximately
34 inches. Although sports aficionados are usually able to take
advantage of skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports, the
winter months are usually mild. Overall, the winter season
offers outdoor adventurers daytime temperatures in the range of 40
– 50 degrees Fahrenheit. At night, the thermometer will record
temperatures ranging from as low as 22 degrees to as high as the
low 50s.
Clearly, Bend, Oregon offers great diversity in its seasonal
weather patterns. This weather is enjoyable, and affords area
guests the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of outdoor
adventures. This has contributed to Bend’s reputation as a
“recreational capital.” |
