Forest Service Wood Permits

Many people in the Deschutes County area often ask about cutting wood in the forest lands in and around the area.  The Forest Service does indeed sell wood cutting permits.  Households can buy permits to cut up to eight cords of firewood per year at a rate of $10 per cord.  

A cord of wood is 128 cubic feet of wood, or a pile 4 feet high, by 4 feet wide, by 8 feet long.
